Amish Bread

Ingredients

- 2 cups warm water
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup oil
- 6 cups bread flour
Recipe
- 1 in a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, then add the yeast.
- 2 when yeast is proofed, mix in salt and oil.
- 3 mix in flour one cup at a time.
- 4 knead dough adding more flour if necessary.
- 5 place in a well oiled bowl and turn dough to coat.
- 6 cover with a damp cloth.
- 7 allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
- 8 punch dough down.
- 9 knead for a few minutes and divide in half.
- 10 shape into loaves, and place into oiled pans.
- 11 allow to rise until dough has risen 1 inch above the pans.
- 12 bake at 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes.
