Basic Granola
Total Time: 2 hrs 10 mins
Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 2 hrs
Ingredients
- 8 cups old fashioned oats, see note below (i usually substitute 4 cups of mixed grain rolled flakes when i can find them)

- 1/2 cup brown sugar

- 1/2 cup real maple syrup

- 1/2 cup canola oil

- water

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 300 deg. spray 2 large jelly roll pans with non-stick spray.

- 2 in a 2 cup pyrex measuring cup mix sugar, syrup, oil and salt.add enough water to make 2 cups. microwave on high for about 2 minutes until sugar disolves. stir in vanilla. in a very large bowl combine the sugar oil mix with the oats. spread mixture onto pans-clumps are ok! bake in oven for about 1 1/2 to2 hours just until mix turns golden, and crispy. stir at least every 15 to 20 minutes, and be very careful it doesn't burn.

- 3 note: at our local bulk foods store they occasionally have a mixed grain rolled/flaked cereal that has barley, rye etc. i like to mix 4cups of this with 4 cups of oats.
