Bartolino's Marinara Sauce

Ingredients
- Servings: 4
- 1/2 cup chopped onion 
- 2 garlic cloves, minced 
- 1 tablespoon olive oil 
- 1 (28 ounce) can tomatoes, cut up 
- 1/4 cup dry red wine (optional) 
- 1/4 teaspoon salt 
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper 
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper 
- 1/2 cup snipped fresh basil 
- 2 teaspoons sugar 
Recipe
- 1 in a medium saucepan, cook onion and garlic in hot oil over medium heat until onion is tender. 
- 2 stir in undrained tomatoes, wine (if you like), salt, cayenne pepper and black pepper. 
- 3 bring to boiling; reduce heat. 
- 4 simmer, uncovered, 25 to 30 minutes or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally. 
- 5 stir in basil and sugar. 
- 6 cover; cook 5 minutes more.
